Amid the uncertainty over the government shutdown and the future of federal SNAP funding, school communities across California are voicing concern about student food insecurity. An EdSource analysis found that 62.8% of California’s transitional kindergarten through 12th grade public school students — about 3.65 million children — are eligible for free or reduced-price meals in the 2024-25 academic year.
